If you have a semi-decent laptop or computer (anything newer than 2010), you should check out Budokai Tenkaichi 3 on the PS2 emulator (and maybe look into the Spanish Budokai Tenkaichi 4 fan-mod that rebalances some stuff and adds a ton of new characters and skins). The graphics also kind of look like an early Pixar film though and it has no story mode to speak of.Ĭoming off the tail of BT3 for the PS 32 in 2007, both felt like a steep step down at the time, but have both stood the test of time of their own reasons. RB2 naturally has the better gameplay as it's the sequel and both refined some aspects of the first game and fixed some problems (like the camera lol). The camera is a notorious problem with the game, so heads up with that. in that it not only has a story mode, but also has a "Movies Saga" and even a "What-If Saga" that has things like Yamcha trying to pick a fight with Vegeta over Bulma and playing through Vegeta's nightmare steeped in his insecurities about Goku and Trunks being Super Saiyans. Dragon Ball: Raging Blast is a Single-player and Multiplayer Fighting video game based on anime and manga franchise Dragon Ball. RB1 has the more anime accurate graphics (though the colors are a bit washed out) and has a more in-depth story mode.

Got them both on release and still revisit them from time to time these days with the PS3 emulator, and it depends. I'm quite biased however, RB2 is my favourite DB game of all time, had lots of fun online on there back in the day! For a more challenging fighting experience and better online play, I would personally opt for RB2, though RB1 has plenty to offer in this department too (or did rather, back in its heyday, online servers on these games are largely destitute nowadays). The question of which is better ultimately comes down to preference, for 1P enjoyment, story immersion and replayability, it is unquestionably RB1.

The lack of an entertaining 1P mode with replay value and, in the opinion of many, overcomplicated fighting mechanics of RB2, left many fans feeling alienated by RB2, which ultimately led to the game being more poorly received and overall less successful than its predecessor, resulting in the series opting for a change in direction in future games (which ultimately led to the extensively story immersive, overly simplified fighting observed in Ultimate Tenkaichi). This is a phenomenon which is more pronounced in RB2 which expanded the functionality and combo potential of characters. The nature of the gameplay was off-putting for some fans which generally prefer an easy to learn, difficult to master style of gameplay. The fighting is widely regarded as more complex than typically observed in DB games both before and after this. The basic fighting mechanics are similar across both games, opting for a focus on melee combos and cancels, also a good range of super and ultimate attacks derived from the anime. The result was an underwhelming sentiment of 1P mode by most fans. The primary difference is that RB1 has a reasonably immersive story mode retelling the events of DBZ, whereas RB2 lacks this, substituting it for the much less well received galaxy mode which is essentially a combination of some original story matchups peppered with a liberal number of what if battles.
